Grants Policy

Small Grant Funding Applications

In considering applications for grants the Trustees will seek to deal fairly and efficiently with all applicants and seek to ensure that applications align with the Trusts vision and charitable objectives. (See Appendix for details.)

The Trust will only consider assisting causes in the Northleach locality and in particular whose who are key to the local community and/or those that contribute to the success of the local community.

Who can apply?

Open to registered charities, community groups and not-for-profit organisations

Funding must be spent in 1 year or less 

The Trust only considers applications for small one-off grants up to a maximum of £500 save in exceptional circumstances. 

Can cover events, equipment, short-term or one-off projects 

Organisations can only apply once in a 12 month period.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate that they have a sufficient local connection with Northleach to qualify. 

Applications must be charitable in their endeavours and compatible with the Trust’s objectives to relieve poverty through affordable housing, to advance education and support local family life.

How to apply.

Applications must be made in writing to clerk@slytrust.co.uk and demonstrate the following; 

The purpose of the funding must be clearly articulated and provide a compelling reason if they are to be considered as potential beneficiaries of the Trust.

Applicants should demonstrate that they can clearly identify who they will reach with their project and why they will benefit. The organisation or group must have a solid, local knowledge and understanding of Northleach and its community.

Applications should demonstrate that the plans to deliver the project or work are realistic and achievable.  

The funding amount can include associated costs such as training or equipment to deliver the project or work.

Monitoring and Reporting

Where appropriate and proportionate to the size of the grant, the charity may:

  • Request a short written report

  • Request financial information or receipts

  • Follow up on outcomes achieved

Review of the Policy

This policy will be reviewed at least every three years or sooner if required by changes in law or the charity’s activities.

Appendix

Charitable objects

 To relieve poverty in Northleach by providing affordable housing for those in need; and/or making grants to other charities and not-for-profit organisations operating in Northleach, provided that if the trustees consider that there are insufficient people in need in Northleach then to relieve poverty by the same means in the surrounding villages of Sherborne, Windrush, Chedworth and Bibury and other neighbouring villages at the discretion of the trustees. 

 To advance education for the benefit of the public by refurbishing buildings at Wheelwrights, West End, Northleach, Gloucestershire and maintaining it as a museum of the history of Gloucestershire life and crafts; and/or making grants to other charities and not-for-profit organisations operating in Northleach. 3.3 to advance the Christian religion by making grants to st peter and St Paul's Church, Northleach and other churches in the Northleach benefice at the discretion of the trustees.
